Do I have to put a layer of polyurethane on an old wine Barrell going in my basement?
I am putting glass on top and serve as a wine tasting table. I am a little worried about the bugs are attracted to the Barrell. FYI, this is a finished, carpeted basement with a cellar. FYI, this is a finished, carpeted basement with a cellar.
If the barrel is very old, wood (usually oak), lasted a long time. Without knowing more on the barrel, I would not put any finish on it. Normally wooden barrels, but cut with sticks to get sealants tables (and in bands ring) were treated within a natural sealing agent. And if the wine is stored in it, the wood must be thoroughly dry to prevent any potential wood eaters. I would leave it alone and if I even saw any signs of damage. Good luck
