What exactly is the difference between 'vintage' and 'old'?
Seriously. What is the difference between buying a vintage dress for the best price, compared to buying an 'old' clothes in a clothes shop?
clothing vintage is a generic term for clothing, new or second hand from an earlier era. The phrase is also used in connection with a retail outlet, for example, "Vintage clothing store." It can also be used as an adjective: "This dress is vintage." The word vintage is copied from its use in the terminology of wine as an elegant euphemism that seems more for "old" clothes. Generally speaking, clothing which has been produced before 1920 is known as vintage clothing and clothing from the 1920s to 1980 is considered vintage. Retro, short for retrospective, usually refers to clothing that mimics the style of an earlier era. Clothing produced more recently is often called the current fashion or contemporary. Opinions vary on these definitions. Most vintage clothing has been used, but a small percentage of other components. These are often old warehouse, or shop stock. These items are usually referred to by distributors as "dead capital", "Old Stock" or "new old stock" and can order more later and more valuable than those which have been spent especially if they have their original labels.
