The possibility of modifying a vintage dress pattern?
I was interested in getting a dress for an event uncoming. I was looking at patterns period costumes (the 50's style party dress). However, these models are not available in a wide range of sizes. I wondered if it was possible that an experienced seamstress to alter these patterns to fit me?
Yes, a seamstress or tailor can "qualify" for a new pattern size, or even make a new pattern of this style. A professional will know how to get back to the slope of the neck and sleeves, and change the angle of darts, as well other things that change when you resize. It will be expensive, but if you use more than once, you might want to spend extra to get exactly what you want. Be creative and the individual is not always cheap!
