Kentucky Derby 2009
The countdown to the 2009 Kentucky Derby has begun. Since 1875, this race meeting has captured the hearts of racing fans horses. Full of enthusiasm and anticipation, the crowds flooded into Churchill Downs on May 2, 2009 to the 135th Kentucky Derby.

History
Most people know that the track that hosts the Kentucky Derby Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. Few people know that Churchill Downs was originally called the Jockey Club of Louisville. The track was officially opened in 1875 and has been running the Derby and the Oaks every year since then. Attendance is expected to reach about 150,000 fans in 2009.
In the fall of 1894 and spring 1895, a new grandstand was built cost $ 100,000 for the Derby. The new platform had two needles. Over time, the needles are met as the Twin Spires and has become an iconic symbol of Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby.
The circuit and the Kentucky Derby could not have become in all that they have become if it were not for Matt Winn, who took over in 1902. Because of his drive and business savvy, experienced Churchill Downs rebirth.
Kentucky Derby Traditions
There are several traditions associated with the Kentucky Derby. Some of the best known traditions are the garland of roses, drinking mint juleps at the Derby-day, the collection of Kentucky Derby glasses, cups and collecting silver julep.
Garland of roses
The first published account of roses wrapped in horses appeared in 1896. Since 1987, floral designers supermarket chain Kroger has occurred garland of roses that is 90 inches long by 14 inches wide and weighs about 35 pounds.
Mint Julep
The official drink of the Kentucky Derby horse mint julep fans loved racing more than 100 years.
There are variations, but most recipes include fresh mint sprigs, Bourbon Whiskey, powdered sugar and water.
Kentucky Derby glasses
It was not the intention of the race track to provide glasses as souvenirs the year started the tradition. In 1938, the glasses were intended only as a mint julep glasses. I will look into past performance and the entire field of horses when the time comes and try to disadvantage as one would any other race. Travel to Derby
Derby Kentucky tends to stretch the full accommodation capacity of Louisville. The countdown to the Kentucky Derby 2009
In the end, will come down to two minutes. It will be two minutes of white-knuckle suspense, two minutes of sweaty palms tightly around the betting slips, two minutes for dreams to be realized or discontinuous, two minutes from the sound of the bell when the winner crosses the finish line amid a cheering crowd.
