Looking for a protein Skimmer with only 2.5 inches of space between the wall of the tank and the fish?
I have a tank of 72 gallons of salty 2.5 inches of space between the wall and the tank. It also has 2 inch opening in the back of the tank. Any hang-on protein skimmer would set limited space. If not, any in-tank protein skimmer is good.
Do a search on any search engine for DIY protein skimmer. There are many plans online to make your own, so I'm sure you can find something you can do, or modify plans for something that is to make work.
