How do I remove rust from a Cast Iron skillett?
We have a cast-iron skillett not been cured and somewhat rusty. A large stain on the bottom. I need to know how to get the rust out, if possible.
Hey, it's metal. Take sandpaper and sand the rust out. I do not care what you start, but eventually the sand with 200 or finer. Then, immediately season the pan. Wipe down the inside and out with butter pork, bacon fat or vegetable oil. Place in oven upside down, and cook at 250 for at least an hour. Never use laundry detergents. If it does, remove the fat into the pores of the pan. If you do this, you have to reseason. Clean water only. If it's seasoned right, which is like nonstick cookware. dry and clean with oil when put it.
