Art Deco
Can anyone explain the difference between Art Nouveau and Art Deco?
I know the time in which each one was very popular, so do not need that information. The two styles seem so similar – just need to know the basic differences, or what defines each. I'm thinking about changing scenery to one or the other or a combination of both. Thank you.
Perhaps you should look like the amount of softness in one piece. I think the Art Nouveau and Deco periods overlap to some extent. I like two ends of nouveau (long silhouettes, vines, naked, etc.) and early Deco, incorporating some of them with sharp geometric features. Later, Deco is clearer without the sweetness, then becomes the "space age". Instead of decorating in one or the other, combine pieces you like, more soft parts Nouveau Deco geometry offset. Even some modern things. I really do not worry about the forthcoming period, provided they like them and that they well together, creating a good flow, and a good feeling.
